Tourist safe-driving week launched in New Zealand

WELLINGTON, Sept. 27 (Xinhua) — A tourist safe-driving week was launched on Thursday in New Zealand by the Chinese embassy and consulates and Zuzuche, a global self-driving tour platform, to promote safety awareness among self-driving tourists.
At the launching ceremony, the Chinese embassy and consulates in New Zealand, together with more than 30 leading car rental companies operating in New Zealand, released two initiatives to promote industry responsibilities and self-driving tour safety.
Chinese Consul General in Christchurch He Ying told the online launching ceremony that in recent years, an increasing number of Chinese tourists have chosen to travel in New Zealand by self-driving, which raises higher safety requirements for travel.
The two initiatives have been launched to create a safer and more orderly self-driving environment for Chinese tourists visiting New Zealand, as well as further establish a good cooperation and communication mechanism among car rental platforms, rental companies, travel agencies, and tourists, He said.
Since January 2023, the number of Chinese tourists traveling to New Zealand has rapidly increased, with a significant surge in self-driving tourists. ■
